Dyslexia Support in Kenya:

Hope, Healing, and Learning

A cross-continental initiative bringing Ron Davis® strategies to neurodivergent learners in Kenya.

As a Davis® Dyslexia Facilitator passionate about inclusive education, I’m honoured to be part of The Kakamega Project—a life-changing initiative bringing dyslexia support to communities in Western Kenya.

Together with Geoffrey Ashiono of the Math E-Zee Tutoring Centre, and fellow Facilitator Rachel Barwell, we’re building a foundation for dyslexic learners in Kenya to thrive in school, work, and life.

About the Kakamega Project

The Kakamega Project was born from the inspiring leadership of Geoffrey Ashiono, who saw first-hand the transformative impact of Ron Davis’ hands-on methods with his teaching team in Kakamega County, Kenya. What started with a 90-minute online webinar has now become a growing national movement.

In collaboration with The Whole Dyslexic Society (WDS) in Canada, which now supports funding for the project, we’re preparing to deliver core Davis®-based training and the Why Tyrannosaurus But Not If? Parent and Tutor Support Course across four locations in Kakamega County.

These courses equip parents and local tutors with simple, effective, and practical tools to support dyslexic and visual-spatial learners—tools that can be applied immediately.

Why It Matters

In Kenya, it’s estimated that up to 10 million people are dyslexic, most of whom go unsupported. Many bright children fall out of school, not because of a lack of potential, but because the education system doesn’t yet meet their needs.

This project helps learners stay in school and succeed—by equipping remedial tutors and parents with powerful methods designed by and for dyslexic thinkers. It’s not just about literacy; it’s about unlocking creativity, restoring confidence, and building brighter futures.
